This is in a diverse small group setting. Students will be various ages and needs. Teacher time and attention will be split between up to 6 students. This allows for a more social learning environment.

IEP Meeting Prep

We will meet to discuss your child’s academic, social, behavioral, and sensory needs. We would come up with a plan for how they can be met and how to request those needs in a meeting. I prepare you to advocate for your child at their IEP meeting.

Meet the Dream Team

This is the team of individuals that have helped make the Scenic Land Learning dream a reality. Every person on this team is committed to helping families access unique learning experiences not offered in traditional classrooms.

Meredith Strauss

Founder/CEO/Teacher

After 15 years of teaching special education in public schools, Meredith decided that individual and small group instruction was the best way to meet the needs of learners. She has been trying to re-create the learning environment she experienced teaching at Scenic Land School in 2008. In October of 2025, she began offering evening tutoring sessions out of what now is a full-time learning center called Scenic Land Learning. Her mission is to create a learning experience as UNIQUE as your child! In her time away from the classroom, she loves cheering on her sons on the baseball field and the dance stage. She always has a bag of yarn in tow to keep her hands busy making crocheted plushies and wearable art. Her husband, also a former public school special education teacher, is her greatest supporter and cheerleader in this new adventure.

Kristen Strauss

Secretary

Kristen graduated from Northern Arizona University, inspired to become a teacher, a profession embraced by her parents, cousins, and one of her brothers. Kristen has taught learners from pre-k to 6th grade. Her most recent classroom experience in a special education inclusion preschool involved developing kindergarten readiness programs tailored to children with diverse needs, further highlighting her commitment to inclusive education. She is currently the the Youth Programs Manger for United Way of Northern Arizona where she facilitates innovative and collaborative solutions as we meet the needs of Northern Arizona youth and ensure those communities are thriving for generations to come. Outside of work, Kristen enjoys spending time exploring the forest just outside of her Arizona home with her dog, Evie!

Mandi Roberson

Treasurer

Mandi Roberson has been teaching for 16 years where she has taught students in kindergarten, 1st, 4th, and 5th grades. She also spent 3 years as an assistant principal before happily returning to the classroom to find better balance in life. Mandi is married, has 2 kids, and 2 dogs that keep life fun. She loves to travel, find new adventures, and bring that sense of curiosity and excitement into everything she does. Above all, she's passionate about making sure EVERY learner gets the support they need to succeed---the same way Scenic Land supports all learners.

Dixie Gray

Board Member

Dixie Gray is a Visionary leader, bridge builder and licensed educator with a bachelor’s degree coupled with master’s level work in special education and over 30 years’ experience instructing elementary, middle school, and secondary students, securing resources, and implementing effective programs. Certification and background experience include teaching music, theater, marching band, choral arts, reading, language arts, study/life skills, and math. She is dedicated to guiding students to succeed while inspiring an insatiable passion for learning to maximize the learning potential of non-traditional learners. Dixie served as Meredith's teaching mentor at the original Scenic Land School and encouraged her to embark on this new adventure when she became dissatisfied with the level of support special education students were receiving in public schools. She is currently a teacher at a home-school program called Athenaeum of Central Mississippi.

Lorraine Kahn

Board Member

Lorraine graduated from Bloomsburg State College in Pennsylvania in 1979 with a BS in elementary education. Her teaching career began in New Jersey. There, she taught nursery school, 2nd grade, and 7th grade. She relocated to California in 1990, where she received her California teaching credential and masters of education from the University of LaVerne. She began teaching in Chino, California in 1992, where she taught until her retirement in 2020. During her tenure in Chino, she taught grades 2-6. Most of her career was spent teaching students on IEPs. Retirement was not for her, so in 2022 she became a substitute teacher and now works daily at her former school. She stands behind Scenic Land Learning because she has fought many battles with families to help students with disabilities receive the services they are entitled to. She believes Scenic Land Learning will help equip students with everything they need to be successful. When not in the classroom, Lorriane can be found reading, going on walks, and spending time with her friends and family.
